Xaraya impressions - The new masterpiece of CMS

Posted by: Michael R. Ritter on September 09, 2008 9:21:53 PM (526 Reads)

After setting up Xaraya and working with it for some weeks now to get fürstleur.com up and running, I must say that Xaraya has jumped several steps ahead and is the ultimate CMS by extending the ideology of PostNuke.

Xarayas only quirk is the documentation and this one is sadly obvious. There're the RFC documents on xaraya.org, but as soon as you dive deeper into the system, you'll find masses of greatness in Xaraya, that's simply not documented anywhere. Also there's little discussion about Xaraya where you could find unofficial documentation and hints.

I'm sure this is the main reason why Xaraya isn't that popular and I'm sure it would otherwise gain a much broader installed base in no time.

Greatnesses I found in Xaraya:

  • Absolute modularization
  • The cleanest system I've ever seen
I also work a lot with Magento Commerce since some weeks, and this one got raving reviews for its clean code and design... Well, then Xaraya is the godfather ;-). To be honest, you'll find everything in seconds! Once you know the very simple underlying architecture, whatever you're looking for, it's just some seconds away. Regardless if you're looking for module functions, templates or css definitions. I find Magento rather obscure to understand on the fly.
  • Excessive usage of hooking
  • ...

Greatnesses I'll hopefully find soon:

  • Multilanguage support for articles/content
Like with PostNuke and Pagesetter, where you could define a language for each article and it only showed up for users of that language.
... to be contnued ...
